Selfridges

Selfridges on Oxford Street

Selfridges is a shopping mecca for all things luxurious. A step down from the grandeur of Harrod’s yet still steeped in class, Selfridges has it all, and, surprisingly, at a variety of price points.

The interior is modern and spread out. At 540,000 square feet, customers won’t feel overwhelmed by the masses. The high end department store definitely has its fair share of items not within a student’s budget, but there are also more affordable sections of the store. The streetwear section, for example, hosts limited collections from brands like H&M, Topshop, AllSaints, and American Apparel. Browsing the racks of the Topshop collection held within Selfridges is a much less daunting task than fighting the crowds of hip youth at the three-story flagship store down the street. Plus, you’ll be doted on rather than have to wait in a 30-minute line to try on your new garb.

What’s more is that Selfridges hosts a number of celebrity appearances. Stella McCartney met with customers this spring for the launch of her new perfume, in addition to an appearance by Emma Watson. Check their website frequently to see who will be next!

Lastly, if the thought of traversing this institute of all things fashionable intimidates you, at least head to the Oxford Street flagship for a look at Selfridges’ window displays. They are truly a work of art and an iconic embodiment of the creative exuberance of London.
