Paris: A City to Slow Down For

Paris : A City to Slow Down For

Paris is the only city I have ever visited that lives up to all the hype. City of romance, city of lights, city of art, city of fashion, city of food; Paris is all that and more. Over spring break, I had the pleasure of visiting the French capital for the second time. In that week, I feel even more hopelessly in love.

Eiffel Tower

Paris can of course be done as an easy weekend trip. The Eurostar makes it especially accessible from London. Any good travel guide will give you an itinerary to cram the Louvre, the Eifel Tower, Notre Dame, Arch De Triumph, Champs Elysees and maybe even Versailles into a few days. But so much of the wonderful subtleties that make Paris Paris are lost in this fly by night approach.

Seine view of Notre Dame

Paris is best enjoyed like good meal, savored at a leisurely pace. So much of cities beauty lies in walking along the Seine, picnicking in neighborhood parks, shopping at outdoor markets, spending all day at a gallery, people watching at sidewalk cafes, or chatting with locals over a glass of wine. If you’re serious about really getting a feel for this incredible city, give Paris at least a week of your undivided attention. Taking it slow in this dreamy, yet cosmopolitan escape will be a nice change from the hustle and bustle of London life.
